A major crackdown on fraudulent licensing practices in Mpumalanga led to the arrest of 27 individuals, including driver’s license testing examiners and driving school owners, during 16 and 17 September 2024. The arrests were the result of a multidisciplinary investigation conducted by the Hawks, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), and Crime Intelligence as gathered from the official Hawks media statement.
The operation, which took place in towns such as Sabie, Graskop, Lydenburg, and Verena, targeted those involved in a scheme where bribes were paid to corrupt officials and driving school operators to bypass standard driver’s license tests.
