On Monday, 27 January 2025, a wave of coordinated arson attacks devastated Putco bus depots in the Nkangala District, resulting in the destruction of 51 buses and injuries to two security guards. The attacks have sent shockwaves through the community, particularly in KwaMhlanga and Siyabuswa, where the depots were targeted.

According to reports, 15 armed attackers dressed in black clothing and balaclavas stormed the KwaMhlanga depot, holding employees at gunpoint before setting 16 buses ablaze using petrol bombs. During the chaos, one security guard was shot and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
