Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has issued a warning following the circulation of false social media and WhatsApp messages claiming that government officials are visiting homes to verify identity documents or collect biometric information.

The organisation has made it clear that it does not conduct door-to-door visits for fingerprint scanning, ID verification, or biometric collection for any of its surveys, including censuses.
