Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral resources and energy, announced a new regulation regarding the sale of diesel and petrol on 15 July 2021. This will commence nationwide to all petrol stations with immediate effect after it has been published in the Gazette. The regulation prohibits the sale of and dispensing of petrol and diesel in the form of containers. According to the official government notice of the new regulation, the word 'container' is described as "any object used for holding or transporting petroleum products, other than a vehicle." Thus, nobody is allowed to sell or buy petrol and diesel in containers of any kind. This is to halt the national panic buying and hoarding of petroleum and diesel. Also, to stop the use of petrol bombs in the current raiding that is happening in Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal. Unfortunately, this holds negative consequences for the rest of South-African citizens and businesses who use generators, who are left uncertain about what to do in power outages like loadshedding and load reduction.
