A warm welcome was extended to the guest speaker Mr. Mandla Mthembu of Accelerated Education Enterprises (AEE) Head office and also to Terence Crompton Jnr. who came all the way from England to join in on the celebrations. Terence Jnr. attend ECS his whole school career. Ms. Swanepoel recounted that from a vision of Pastor Malcom Hurter, the school was born in the kitchen of the Ermelo Baptist Church on 16 January 1989, and from humble beginnings after being established by Pastor Charles Barry and his wife Henriette, with an enrolment of 28 pupils, the school had grown to become an important role-player in the formative years of the many learners who have walked the corridors. The schools’ administrator Pastor Terence Crompton also gave a brief account of the schools’ history and recalled some quaint and humorous anecdotes of memories made at the school. Food for thought was provided in the address by Mr. Mandla Mthembu who reminded learners that they were young and that they were privileged to be in a school that maintained high moral values and that they should take the teachings of the school to heart. “We are all made in the likeness of the Father Son and Holy Spirit therefore we are all equal and if you are spiritually saved, the body doesn’t matter. A Symbolic release of balloons in the colours of the school followed whereafter guests were treated to snacks and tea in the entrance hall. On Friday afternoon the celebrations continued with an informal ‘Bring and Braai’ where past learners, staff and parents again shared memories.
