
Top provincial police commissioner bows out.

Kimberley:- South African Police Service acting provincial commissioner, Joey Kers , retired at the end of last month.
He bowed out after 27 years in the police service that saw him redeployed by the ANC in 1995 to the South African Police Service.
He was born in the oldest part of Galeshewe township formerly called no. 2 location.
Kers started school at Reneilwe Lower Primary School and then Boichoko Higher Primary School.
He later moved to Tidimalo Secondary school and completed school in 1980 at Tshireleco High school.
''I was arrested in 1980 due to the school boycotts and Galeshewe uprising from July to September, '' he said.
I stood trial with four others, from 1981 until 1983, on terrorism charges during the ''Kimberley Terror trial''.
At the conclusion of the trial I was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, of which three years to run concurrently, and I was to serve an effective 11years in jail, '' Kers added.
